Set in the village of Llangattock, this property makes a great base for exploring the Brecon Beacons. A short walk of less than 1 mile across a meadow and over an ancient stone bridge leads you to Crickhowell – a lovely small town with independent shops, cafes and pubs – with many more local walks to enjoy: Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal passes through Llangattock to the west, allowing level walking along the picturesque towpath, while the River Usk provides riverside strolls from Crickhowell. For a slightly more energetic trek you can join the Beacons Way or Cwm Cumbeth trail at Crickhowell, leading you up on to the flat-topped Table Mountain and The Black Mountains beyond.

Once part of the original village school, this delightful cottage dates back to the late 17th century. It has been given a touch of modern elegance through the use of designer wallpapers, warm wooden parquet flooring in the sitting room and chic furnishings, which sit beneath partially exposed beams. The entrance porch has plenty of hanging space for your coats, before you move through to the combined sitting/dining room with an attractive and practical log effect electric fire that will take the chill off cooler days. The dining table offers seating up to six people, ready for meals prepared in the separate, fully equipped kitchen. At the end of the day, two bedrooms wait upstairs. A double room offers lovely views out over the water meadows beside the River Usk, with Table Mountain and Sugar Loaf beyond, while a spacious twin can accommodate a third person thanks to the included single chair bed. On the first floor you also find the property’s bathroom, with a shower over the bath.

Outside, there is access to a neat cottage garden with bistro style furniture, providing you with the ideal spot to enjoy a morning coffee, or enjoy a sunny afternoon.

This is a very nice property that is clean and comfortable and well equipped. It is really handy having an allocated parking spot. The Horseshoe Inn, just around the corner serves very nice food and good real ale. For more choice in the evening, it is only a 15 mins work over the bridge to the centre of Crickhowell.

We had a lovely time in the cottage, which was very comfortable, with plenty of games for the kids, fully equipped kitchen and amazing location with plenty of walks straight from the door. Great communication with the host. We will be happy to come back in future.

Shoe box cottage really isn't that small, belying its name. It is well appointed and placed between the Brecon and Monmouth canal and the town of Crickhowell. We regularly walked to Crickhowell across the field in 15 minutes for morning coffee, try out 'Halo' cafe. there are a number of walks around Crickhowell that are alongside the River.
