Just 10 miles from the Brecon Beacons, this cottage is a walker’s delight. Nearby Drostre Wood (2 miles) is rich with wildlife and is the perfect place to take little legs if they can’t quite manage a hike, as is Garwnant Forest (17 miles). Take a canoe out on the water with Celtic Canoes (12 miles), who run guided sessions as well as canoe hire and experience the Welsh countryside from a different perspective. And when you’re worn out and need a little indulgence, book a table at the nearby pub, less than 1 mile down the road, for some fine dining.
The cottage is deceivingly spacious and has beautiful decor that is sympathetic to this 18th-century property. Rich parquet flooring and cosy rugs in the living room welcome you to sink into the sofas in front of the wood burner while you enjoy some TV. You’ll find everything you need in the bright and airy kitchen/diner that has fantastic views from the window; sit and enjoy meals around the large dining table while you plan your day together. There’s a utility room with a sink, washing machine and drying area, making it the perfect place to store muddy boots after a day out walking. You’ll also find a separate WC on the ground floor. Heading up a flight of stairs you will find three large bedrooms; a tranquil double bedroom which has a spacious walk-in wardrobe, while a beautiful king-size bedroom has the best views in the house. The remaining room has three single beds, making it the ideal den for the kids. There’s also a separate shower room on this level as well as a peaceful family bathroom.
Head out to the garden where you’ll find a large lawn and a sheltered terrace with garden furniture. Look out across the most wonderful views across to the Beacons’ ridge from the Carmarthen Fan in the west to the Black Mountains in the east. There’s also a BBQ out here so you can enjoy an al fresco meal, watching the sun set behind the mountains. If you’ve got bikes with you, there’s a lockable barn next to the property.
